On behalf of Howitt Hall, I'd like to wish all of our residents a happy and safe summer.

2009 has been an incredible year for Howitt Hall, and, to our departing residents, we say a sad farewell. To those returning in 2010, enjoy your break, and prepare for another fantastic year at Howitt!

Thanks to your generosity in offering up your veins, Howitt has taken out the inaugural MRS Vampire Shield - a competition of which Hall can donate the most blood. Howitt donated enough blood to save over 50 lives this semester - a real achievement to be proud of.

If you're a returning resident or thinking of coming to Howitt in 2010, consider joining us in donating blood - it takes about 15 minutes, doesn't hurt very much, and every time you donate your blood can save 3 different lives.

Howittians attended the MRS Clayton Awards Night in huge numbers to see Howitt take out a number of top honours at the biggest awards night of the year. Of four awards available Howitt took out three.

Howitt showed its community spirit by winning the MRS Vampire Shield, donating enough blood to save 51 lives this semester. Howitt also won the MRS Environment Award, for the highest participation in environmental activities across Clayton campus.

If you ordered professional photos that were taken at the Gaudy, you will be able to collect your photos from Jess Vince-Moin at 9.30pm in the Ground Floor Common Room, Wednesday, 21st October.

The last Dine In of the year will be held on Tuesday, 6th October from 6pm til 8pm. This includes a FREE two course meal and drinks, with Vegetarian and Halal options. There will also be the presentation of the annual HHS "awards" as well as the HHS elections for 2010. Certainly a night not to be missed. Open to Howitt Residents only.

Enjoy music? Enjoy lots of food? Then come on down to the Ground Floor Common Room (GFCR) at 8pm on Sunday 11th of Oct for both! We will have some amazing acts from our many talented students at Howitt Hall and all this coupled with a Buffet meal of food! We will have scones, pancakes, party pies, strawberries, biscuits and more! Not to mention the cool tunes as well! Interested in performing? Sign up in the GFCR by Friday the 9th of Oct for your chance to show off your skills!

Interested in a society position for 2010? Nominations are now open for society executive positions for the academic year 2010! All positions are available, including President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Pick up a nomination form from the GFCR and get it returned to Nick in 715 by MIDNIGHT SUNDAY OCTOBER 4. Positions will be elected at the closing dine in on Tuesday the 6th. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to speak with the current office bearers, or Nick before the deadline!

Tired of looking at the same wall on the treadmill at the gym? Tired of looking at the same wall on your seat in your room? Well how about you come for a bike ride to the city! Yes, I know it sounds like a long way, but really, it's not that far (only takes about twice as long as a train ride). And more to the point, the ride is really very nice. With forests and little tunnels you never thought existed, the view is quite exquisite. So get your bikes into gear or borrow one from a friend, find your helmet and sign up in the GFCR. We plan to leave at 11AM ON SATURDAY 19TH OF SEPTEMBER.

Are you a leader in the Hall? Have you ever pictured yourself as one of Howitt's Resident Advisors, or at the helm of Howitt Hall Society?

This Sunday Howitt will hold a Leadership 2010 Information Night.  The panel will include Tracey, Ashleigh, Shannon, your RAs and Howitt Hall Society to tell you exactly what it means to be a leader in the Hall, and give you an opportunity to have all your questions answered. You will also find out how to go about applying to be an RA or nominating for Society. Meet before supper (9pm) on Sunday, 13 September in the GFCR.

The countdown is on to the biggest night in Howitt's calendar, the Annual College Head's Ball - The Gaudy. Tickets to the Gaudy sold out in record time this year, and the evening, themed 007: Black Ties and Diamonds, is all the Hall is talking about.

Thursday night is also the night we have our annual Howitt Hall photograph (which all residents are invited to, whether they are attending the Gaudy or not). The College head hosts a gathering at 6:30pm in the GFCR before we make our way over for the photo.
