What to bring to Howitt Hall?

When I first moved into Howitt I was confused about what I should bring to the hall and what would be provided for me. This list details what you’ll find here for you when you move into Howitt, and also some things that many of our past residents have found useful in bringing with them to the hall – they are just suggestions and it’s not compulsory to bring them.

What is provided in your new bedroom:

  • Bed and mattress
  • Study desk
  • Cupboard and bookshelf
  • Clothes drying horse for use in your room
  • Arm chair and desk chair
  • Heater
  • Long wall mirror
  • 2 Sheets, 1 pillowcase, 2 blankets and a bed cover (exchangeable weekly)

What is provided in your floor laundry, bathroom and kitchen (all of these facilities are available for your use at any time).

  • Fan forced oven, electric stove top and grill
  • Microwave
  • Toaster
  • Toasted sandwich maker
  • Communal fridge/freezer
  • Personal kitchen locker to store cooking products and items
  • Washing machine
  • Clothes dryer

Many past residents have found the following items useful at Halls (remember these are not compulsory).

  • Pots, pans, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery
  • Bar fridge – this helps as the communal fridge is sometimes full
  • Desk lamp
  • LAN cable for connecting to the internet, and a phone,
  • Lock for kitchen storage locker and bike (if you are bringing a bike with you)
  • Fan for hot weather
  • Bath towels
  • Own doona to make your room look like home
  • Coat hangers
  • Old clothes or “dress-ups” for society functions and dine ins.

If, after you move in, you find that there are things you forgot or just things you need, your friendly RA will be able to help you figure out Melbourne’s transport system and let you know where the best places to shop are.

I look forward to meeting you soon,
